Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from Chess.com or Lichess analysis?
Chess.com and Lichess tell you a move was a "blunder" and show the engine's preferred move. postgame explains why your move was wrong, names the chess concept you missed (pin, fork, pawn break, and so on), and tells you specifically what to practise. It's the difference between a score and a lesson.
How do I get my games in?
The easiest way is to import directly: enter your Chess.com or Lichess username and pick a game from your recent history. You can also paste a PGN from any chess app or database if you prefer.
What is the coaching feedback page?
As you analyse more games, postgame builds a picture of you as a player. On the My coaching page, you can generate a synthesised review across your analysed games — your recurring patterns, your strengths, what to work on next, and a training plan with linked resources. It's the part that works like a coach who remembers you, rather than reviewing each game in isolation.
What's the difference between Quick and Deep analysis?
A Quick analysis (1 credit) gives you the full coaching narrative, critical moments, and study advice at a faster engine depth. A Deep analysis (2 credits) runs the engine deeper and adds move-by-move commentary for a more thorough review. Quick is great for most games; Deep is worth it for games you really want to understand.
How long does analysis take?
Typically a few minutes depending on game length and the tier you choose. The engine evaluates every position, then the AI writes the coaching. You can close the tab and come back — the analysis runs in the background.
How accurate is the coaching?
The engine analysis uses Stockfish, one of the world's strongest chess engines, so the evaluation of which moves were errors is highly reliable. The coaching narrative is written by AI (Claude) based on that engine data and the actual board position. The AI's explanations are usually excellent but can occasionally be imprecise on a specific tactical detail — we're continuously improving this.
What chess rating range does this work for?
postgame works for all levels, but it's most useful for players rated roughly 600-2000. The coaching adapts to your level and focuses on the practical concepts and patterns that drive improvement.
How do credits work?
You get three free credits when you sign up. After that, one credit covers a Quick analysis and two cover a Deep analysis. Credits never expire, and you only pay for what you analyse — no subscription.
What happens if an analysis fails?
If an analysis fails due to a technical error, your credits are automatically refunded.
Can I export my coaching report?
Yes. After an analysis, you can download a Markdown file with the full narrative, critical moments, missed ideas, and study recommendations.
Can I review or delete past analyses?
Yes. Click "My games" in the header to see all your past analyses, replay them on the board, and re-read the coaching. You can also delete any game you no longer want to keep.
How do I get a refund?
Credits are non-refundable once purchased, but failed analyses are automatically refunded as credits. If you have a billing issue, contact us at info@post-game.net.
